Milcrest Estate is a New Zealand, boutique vineyard, privately owned by Terry Milton and Christine Cook and is situated in Hope, Nelson at the top of New Zealand's South Island and produces 5 premium award winning wine varieties. They include; Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah. It is located at the foothills of the Richmond Ranges and was established in 2006.

Milcrest Estate Nelson Pinot Noir 2010 - 4.5 Stars - Winestate Magazine - Feb/March Edition


Two luxury suites are available within the vineyard setting, offering 5 star accommodation, with the emphasis being on a whole wine experience. A cellar door is situated within the estate and is open daily between 11am and 4.30pm for tastings and bottle sales and visitors, who stay in the accommodation, are encouraged to taste the wines and are educated about the wine making process and sustainable viticultural practices.

The cellar door is also used to exhibit Christine's stunning artwork and provides a range of merchandise including Milcrest embossed clothing, locally grown Macadamia nuts, preserves, chutneys and oils. Our Milcrest Label was designed by Christine and is an actual painting that hangs on-site.

Prior to 2006, the property was used to grow export boysenberries, before being converted to a vineyard producing premium quality grapes.
The Nelson wine region of New Zealand is well known for its stunning, award winning, aromatic style wines, in particular Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewurtztramminer and Riesling varieties.
Nelson has two distinct grape growing areas within the region, the Tasman area, which contain deep rich Moutere clays and the Waimea Plains which contain stony alluvial river gravels.
In 2009, Milcrest Estate launched its first vintage of boutique wines, producing a gorgeous Sauvignon Blanc from grapes grown on the homeblock and a full bodied 2008 Milcrest Pinot Noir, which is now drinking superbly. The 2010 vintage saw the addition of a 2009 Milcrest Estate Pinot Gris, a 2009 Reserve Chardonnay and a 2009 Syrah.
2010 saw the 010 - Sauvignon Blanc awarded Silver medals at the prestigious Romeo Bragato Wine Awards in 2010 and 2011 and again at the 2010 Canterbury International Aromatic Wine Competition.
The 2009 Pinot Gris, which is made in the French Alsace style, is a superb example of this style and has in the past 12 Months been awarded 4 Silver medals, the most recent at the Romeo Bragato Awards in 2010 and New Zealand International Wine Show 2011.
The Milcrest 2009 Pinot Gris and 2008 Pinot Noir were selected from a large number of wines submitted for Wine Discovery New Zealand 2010 and served at the Christchurch Mayoral inaugoration luncheon and Plenery lunches during that event.
In August of 2011 Milcrest Estate's 2010 Pinot Noir was awarded a Gold medal at the NZ International Wine Show. This is a stunning wine from a stunning Nelson vintage. The 09 Pinot Gris received another Silver medal at the same show.
The 2012 Royal Easter Show saw our 2010 Syrah awarded a Gold medal.
Our wines are gaining great momentum and are now available throughout New Zealand at selected fine wine shops and wine retailers. Our point of difference is, that we do not supply any supermarkets, except for the local independently owned Fresh Choice, keeping our brand premium and sought after.
Milcrest Estate cellar door/tasting room opened in January of 2011, offering the afore-mentioned range of Milcrest boutique Nelson wines. Tastings and direct sales are available from the cellar door 11.00am - 4.30pm, 7 days a week during the Spring and Summer through to Easter and then 1pm - 4.30pm throughout Autumn and Winter. Milcrest Estate is committed to producing top quality New Zealand wines which will further enhance the Nelson wine region's reputation for quality new world wines.

The vineyard offers guests, three brand new superbly appointed luxury accommodation suites, with stunning views of the Milcrest Estate vineyard, Mount Arthur and the Richmond ranges. Guests can enjoy their stay within a fully operational boutique vineyard, while sampling the beautifully crafted New Zealand wines on offer in a totally relaxed environment and as previously stated with the focus being on a whole wine experience.
Mountain Bikes are available for hire for winery tours within the vicinity. There are 9 wineries within 12 KM radius of the Waimea Plains. Maps are provided and it is an easy predominantly flat ride from winery to winery. With the new cycleways being constructed in Nelson these activities are proving very popular. Full day hire is $38.00 per person and half day $25.00.

Milcrest Estate also offers its stunning vineyard and setting, accommodation suites and use of the Estate for private marquee wedding functions and this is proving to be very popular.
